Barrilaco is one of the many ravines of the hydrological and ecological system within Mexico City’s valley. An ongoing recovery has transformed Barrilaco Ravine, a 30-ha Area of Environmental Value, from a dangerous illegal waste disposal site to a healthy ecosystem and thriving social space. A decade-long collaboration among neighbours, experts, academia, and governmental agencies has made possible the design, implementation, and financing of a robust recovery plan. This cross-disciplinary and cross-sector engagement has vigorously scaled the project to reclaim Mexico City’s northwestern ravines.
